Jason Bellamy-Fults Qualifies for Ballot, Challenges Bradley for Senate District 6

Gainesville, FL — Florida's working families are getting squeezed — by rising costs, stagnant wages, and a legislature that answers to special interests over the people it represents. Jason Bellamy-Fults is running for Florida Senate District 6 to change that.

A local civic leader, former electrical worker and educator, and working-class advocate, Jason is entering the race challenging incumbent Republican Jennifer Bradley on a platform of higher wages, lower cost of living, clean energy jobs, and an end to Tallahassee corruption and attacks on local control.

Since launching his campaign in April, Jason has been putting together a campaign team and speaking to constituents throughout the district. Jason's website, takingbackflorida.org, highlights his civic contributions to North Central Florida and nearly two decades of work on energy affordability, housing, and workers' rights. Jason was direct. "My opponent took tens of thousands from the utilities and then refused to hold them accountable for Florida families. I've spent over 15 years helping people lower their energy bills and keep more money in their pockets. Voters in District 6 deserve to know the difference."

On energy, Jason has pledged to protect and expand low-cost residential and commercial solar, require utilities to invest in helping their customers lower their bills, and end utility industry corruption within the Public Service Commission — a direct contrast to Bradley, who supported legislation to eliminate net metering benefits for Florida homeowners. With roughly 75% of Florida's electricity imported, Jason argues the state is overdue for an energy policy that creates local jobs and lowers bills instead of enriching utility shareholders.

Support has come from across the state. State Senator Brian Nathan, representing Florida Senate District 14, was unequivocal. "Jason is an IBEW member and champion of the working class. We need him in the Florida Senate to fight for regular Floridians, not special interests. Go support him."  And Jason’s current state Representative, Yvonne Hayes Hinson, lauded him: "Jason has stood up to bullying and overreach from Tallahassee and is a fierce advocate for local control. He's just the kind of person that we need in the legislature, especially now."  With his strong background advocating for working class issues, Jason has also won the support of the North Central Florida Central Labor Council, representing over 40,000 union members across 12 counties in the region.
