Jason receives statewide endorsement from unions representing Florida educators
Dear Fellow Educator,
My name is Jason Bellamy-Fults and I am running for our Florida State Senate, District 6. I am honored to have the endorsement of the FL AFL-CIO as well as the Florida Education Association in this race. I have worked in the education sector for the past ten years; my wife for 13 years; and several people in my immediate family are retired or current educators or education support professionals. It’s core to who I am. As such, I never tire of reminding our administrators and legislators that teacher working conditions are student learning conditions. And now I’d like to take that message to Tallahassee.
A few months ago, I was in Tallahassee as part of our AFL-CIO Working Family Lobby Corps. I was there on the day that my opponent, Senator Jennifer Bradley, was the deciding vote to move Senate Bill 1296 forward. This bill continues the legislature’s ongoing efforts to destroy our educators’ unions. That was the day that I decided that she was not going to be allowed to run unopposed again and was going to have to answer for her anti-educator voting record. Because make no mistake, Jennifer Bradley is not a friend to educators.
Whether it’s trying to break our unions, supporting the charter school industry’s takeover of our districts, or the despicable attacks on academic freedom and our voting rights, too often, Jennifer Bradley chooses politics over her constituents.
It's past time we fought back. This is a tough district to run in as a proud, AFL-CIO endorsed, union candidate, no doubt about it, but I am working hard every day–throughout every community in this district–to bolster working family turnout and to win over undecided independents and disaffected Republicans. I am confident that I will not only seriously contest this race, but also make our legislators think twice about the attacks they’re making on our union brothers and sisters throughout the state. We must fight for Florida’s future and our ability to survive here. This is where you come in.
Unlike my opponent, I don’t take backroom dollars from corporate lobbyists; I am running a grassroots campaign, relying only on the donations and volunteer hours of the people I hope to represent. Whether you can donate $10, $100, or $1,000, every bit helps us build and maintain the infrastructure we need to win through ads, flyers, walk cards, and canvassing materials. And if you, like too many other folks in our state, are struggling just to get by, I totally understand. In that case, I hope you’ll find some time to join me knocking doors, making phone calls, writing postcards, and tabling at events.Together we can do this!
Please visit my website to learn more about my candidacy, my legislative priorities, and to get involved. I have a volunteer sign-up form and a donation portal on my website, but if you prefer to donate by check, these can be made out to “Jason for SD6” and mailed to the address on my website.
This election, the wind is in our sails as it hasn't been in a generation. Let's seize the moment and let's take back Florida.
In solidarity,
Jason Bellamy-Fults
