United Faculty of Florida at UF endorses Jason for State Senate

United Faculty of Florida-University of Florida (UFF-UF) is proud to endorse Jason Bellamy-Fults for Florida State Senate District 6.

Jason Bellamy-Fults is an educator, union leader, and lifelong advocate for working people in Gainesville and beyond. As a member of our own campus community, Jason understands firsthand the challenges facing Florida's workers and their families, and he understands the unprecedented challenges that UF faculty currently face in the fight for quality higher education. He is a proven fighter against efforts to weaken faculty unions and to take local control away from our community.

Jason has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service. From his adult education work as an instructor for both Santa Fe College and union apprenticeship programs to his efforts helping working families reduce household energy costs and improve their quality of life, he has consistently stood with working people rather than powerful special interests.

At a time when too many politicians in Tallahassee are working to dismantle academic freedom and impede our work as teachers and researchers, Jason Bellamy-Fults is committed to fighting for faculty autonomy, local control of our institutions, and the right for faculty to collectively bargain. As a fellow educator, he believes the freedom to teach, research, and learn without political interference is what creates a thriving university for workers and students alike. He also understands that when faculty have a strong voice in our institutions, our universities are better.

As an educator familiar with the challenges of higher education, vocational education and the K-12 classroom, Jason understands the importance of investing in high quality public education, ensuring academic freedom, and protecting scholars from undue meddling from the state. As a union member, he knows that workers deserve respect, fair wages, safe workplaces, and a seat at the table. As a candidate for State Senate, he will bring those values and priorities to Tallahassee on behalf of the people of District 6.

UFF-UF is proud to stand with Jason Bellamy-Fults because he shares our commitment to quality higher education, academic freedom, and the right to organize. He will be a strong advocate for UF faculty, staff, and students in the Florida Senate.

We encourage all UFF-UF members, their families, and all working people to support Jason Bellamy-Fults for State Senate. Visit www.takingbackflorida.org to learn more, donate, and volunteer for Jason Bellamy-Fults for State Senate District 6.

Together, we can elect a leader who will fight for us, and help build a Florida that works for everyone.

In Solidarity,

Michelle Nolan and Meera Sitharam, Co-Presidents
